Airsoft Sniper Resources
Each well balanced Airsoft team needs a mix of rushers, mid range shooters and most importantly airsoft snipers. Being a sniper means you generally lay low, and stay towards the rear and support your team from afar. Your role as a sniper may also require you to do some reconnaissance, which might mean tracking an opponent and observing without engaging.
Online there are several resources for learning about airsoft sniping. From shopping for your sniper rifle, to reading about the art of sniping and discussing sniping techniques with other airsoft players.
We found this Airsoft Sniper Forum just now, with some posts that are sure to be useful. Airsoft snipers should also check out The Airsoft Sniper website, with all sorts of information, entertainment and resources. One of the largest and more established forums online is the ASF Forums, with thousands of posts related to airsoft and military sim activities.
Stay away from Nite-Site.com, their airsoft forum is filled with posts from spammers.
If you’re on the other side of the pond in the UK, check out Airsoft Sniper.co.uk
Lastly but not least(ly) there’s Airsoft Retreat, another large and established airsoft forum and website with sniping information.

JG 6623 HK416 Full Stock Airsoft Rifle
The HK416 by Heckler and Koch is a great mid-range rifle and an evolutionary step up from the aging M16 and M4 platform. Sold around the world to military and government forces, the HK416 is used selectively by the United States military and law enforcement.
JG has produced a replica of the HK416 called the 6623. With a full stock, full metal rail system and gear box this is an excellent airsoft gun and a wise choice to add to your collection. The stock FPS is 390 with .20g BB’s, which is pretty impressive.
We sell this Airsoft rifle in our store for $220. The package includes the rifle, a high capacity magazine, 8.4V 1500 mAh NiCd rechargeable battery, a battery charger, an instruction manual, a starter Pack of BBs and a clearing rod.
What post at AGR would be complete with some YouTube video goodness.
Here’s an amazingly annoying video of a JG 6623:
Here’s another HK316 with lots of add-ons:
Another 6623 (espanol coming soon)

Airsoft Guns vs. RC Airplanes
I just had to post this video from YouTube of a shootout involving some M4 Airsoft rifles and a couple innocent and unsuspecting RC planes. The planes don’t fare well, getting peppered by two twenty-something airsoft enthusiasts with modded M4′s but surprisingly stay pretty airborne the whole time (despite looking like swiss cheese at the end)
The issue is the range of the high power M4 Airsoft rifles, and the ‘foam’ style planes. I was expecting to see a substantial RC plane that could put up a fight, not two cheap foam ‘gliders’ getting assaulted at close range. However real RC planes fly hundreds of feet up in the air, which would be out of range for these airsoft guns.
Oh well, it’s an entertaining watch, and gives me an idea for some RC/Airsoft themed videos myself.

The Uber Airsoft Sniper Rifle: The Mauser SR L96
Now I’m not sure what exact model this Spring Sniper Rifle is a replica of (SR L96?), but this uber Mauser airsoft sniper rifle is officially licensed and officially kick ass. Shooting a lighter .12 BB at an astonishing 440 FPS, this gun not only looks futuristic and minimalist, but it backs up it’s good looks with unmatched power.
The package comes with a bi-pod and a scope, weighs in at 9.7 pounds, and measures 3 feet 7 inches. The loading mechanism is an accurate and realistic bolt action, and the long rifle barrel means accurate shots (which is more important than pure high FPS)
This is a high end spring powered sniper rifle, and because of that it’s more costly than other spring rifles. However, coming in at $205 it’s still cheaper than a decent Airsoft AEG.
Without further delay, here’s some YouTube Mauser goodness:
Another crappy video with bad contrast/lighting showing the Airsoft Mauser:

10 Talking Points for Having an Airsoft Christmas
One of the downsides to the sport/hobby of airsoft is that if you are under 18 you can’t purchase an airsoft gun yourself. Well technically you can’t because Airsoft guns are required by law to be purchased only by adults (we all know your local hobby shop will probably sell you one). Since Christmas is coming up we thought we’d make a helpful post for you ‘teens giving you some talking points to help convince Santa (aka your parents) to get you an Airsoft gun as a gift. These talking points can also apply to seasons other than Christmas as it’s always a good time to get a new Airsoft rifle!
Talking Points (feel free to print this for handy reference)
1. They’re just toys. Yes even though we call them guns, rifles and pistols these replicas are simply toys and not even close to the real thing. They’re legal pretty much everywhere and cannot be modified to shoot real ammo.
2. They’re safer than BB guns. Traditional BB guns shoot heavy metal BB’s which can not only hurt a person seriously (penetrate skin) but can also travel long distances. Airsoft BB’s are plastic and usually shoot 1/2 or 1/3 the speed of BB’s from a BB Gun.
3. They hurt less than paintballs. This is probably the best comparison you can make, as paintball is widely considered to be a legit sport/hobby and generally safe. Paintballs are much heavier and pack quite a punch when hit typically leaving huge welts and sometimes drawing blood. Airsoft BB’s are extremely light and while they may sting, the only real danger is eye damage.
4. Promise to wear eye protection. In fact, recommend along with your airsoft rifles that Santa also get you eye protection which you’ll wear at all times.
5. Promise to not ransack the neighborhood with your exact metal replica AK-47. The reality is that all airsoft guns look almost exactly like their real life counter parts and you need to assure your parents that you will not be running around the block sticking up motorists and invading homes. Talk about the orange tips, and decide on a safe place to play (away from traffic and nosy neighbors).
6. It’s better than smoking crack. In all seriousness, having a hobby like Airsoft is a good/healthy activity to keep you busy and away from things that may corrupt your fragile mind (like girls and drugs).
7. It gets you outside. You could play airsoft in your 10 x12 room, but most likely you’ll be running around the yard/woods and that’s a good thing. Fresh air and you’re out of your parent’s hair for a couple hours.
8. The hobby promotes teamwork and friendship. Most airsoft skirmish’s are team based, and you’ll learn to work with your teammates to achieve a common goal. This is a good lesson for life and will benefit you in college/the workforce.
9. You will maintain your rifle and learn somthing. Along with playing with an airsoft rifle you need to maintain it. Tell your parents about how you’ll not only be using the gun, but also cleaning it (responsibility), upgrading it and learning how it works. This will help you in science and other engineering tasks.
10. It’s better than sitting in front of the Xbox 360/WoW. This sort of goes hand in hand with #7 but I’m sure if you have a PS3 or 360 that your parents hate all the time you spend on it. Tell them that this is not only cheaper (games are $60 these days) but again, it gets you outside and off the TV/Computer.
–
That’s it. Print this list, learn it and know it well before you approach your parents. If you remain cool, calm and collected and express your side/argument well I’m sure you’ll be a happy boy/girl on Christmass morning.
The last advice I can give you is to shop for your airsoft guns first, and be ready for your parents to say “yes” so you can give them some wise (inexpensive) rifles choices to purchase.

Airsoft on Google Trends Is Awesome
The state of the Airsoft union: Overall traffic for 2008 is up, showing the popularity of Airsoft is strong.
I absolutely love Google Trends, it’s like a pulse for the world’s Internet searching health. I also love Airsoft so I was thinking, let’s combine the two! I ran a search at the trends site and found some surprising results. Guess which country leads ‘airsoft’ searches in Google? Answer: Philippines … I bet you didn’t see that coming. However (hold on to your pants) the second leading country in airsoft searches is Finland, which makes the Philippines placement on top seem obvious in it’s wierdness.

Along with a very helpful time graph showing the overall popularity of the term ‘airsoft’ Google highlights certain news article across the time line giving you an indication of situations where this term spiked, and the possible reason why (press). Here is a news item from Japan back in 2007 about the country debating banning the guns.

Airsoft Tournaments
I was trolling Google for information on Airsoft tournaments and the first result is absolute garbage. Not only is the page not related at all to airsoft tournaments, each link leads to the same website (which I won’t name here and give any additional PR).
It seems that airsoft tournaments is an under-developed niche online, and the Google results for this term are weak. Most of the top results are random pages, including a Yahoo! Answers page, a Hubpage which are mostly trash.
Your best bet for finding a semi-local tournament would be to round your airsoft buddies and start one yourself, or maybe hit up your local hobby/airsoft store and ask the owner what’s going on locally. Usually there’s one person there into the sport pretty hardcore enough to be in the know. You can always try Craigslist, or find some airsoft forums online and ask around for local members.
To help facilitate the promotion of airsoft tournaments, we’ve opened a topic in our brand new Airsoft Forums on the subject. Head on over to the Airsoft Tournaments forum thread for more information.
