I found this little negative airsoft news gem via Google Trends just now, and while it was published in June 2008, the event depicted happened nearly 2 years earlier. Basically some 14-year old asshats decided to storm some school or something with masks and airsoft guns. Police were called, no one was shot but this author felt it necessary to bring up the topic once again and gather quotes from other idiots who think Airsoft is the problem and not these dumb kids.

Let’s look at it from another perspective. Let’s say those same dumb kids stormed the school with masks and paintball guns, Nerf guns or just plain sticks. I would imagine the response to seeing this teen-mob rush into the school holding *anything* would have garnered the same response.

The issue is not airsoft guns and how realistic they look, it’s the kids who use them and the parents that buy them for their kids without knowing if they can handle the toy properly.

The best (or worst) part of this opinion article is where they drag the old sitting-inside-playing-video-games-and-not-running-outside-like-a-fairy argument all old people cling too when they can’t find their meds:

“”I would much rather see my son acting out video games — running, building bunkers, being active — than sitting inside and playing them,” said one Fairfax County, Va., mother, who did not want to be named because she said the issue was too sensitive. “It used to be cops and robbers.” Now there are video games with guns — and airsoft.”

The issue is too sensitive? What is she afraid the Xbox 360 in her house (she bought for her son because she can’t actually do anything with him herself) is going to seek retribution? Please.
